I thought they just cause paralysis that causes people to drown because they can’t surface in time

They cause paralysis, yes, but they paralyse the diaphragm too so you can’t breathe without help, above or below water. Hence the drowning being most common, but yeah, not always fatal.
However, they can also cause heart failure and blindness, so this is still pretty stupid.
Though they only bite if you pester them enough, they tend to prefer to run away.

modern art

Okay, at this point there has to be something wrong with me, right? I’ve watched this 20 times in the last half hour, I still don’t know what they are saying half the time, but it doesn’t seem to matter because i’ve been crying my eyes out laughing for the entire last half hour …

what the fuck is this from i gotta know

it’s called letterkenny and it’s about a man who gets dumped and then goes on to shirk his pacifism and reclaim and hold his title as the toughest dude in the rural town of letterkenny ontario. every episode cold opens like this in increasingly bizarre ways.

I read the bit about not being able to parse what’s being said and then I read the bit about it being set in this fuckin province, and I thought, like, what kind of accent could they possibly use that was so incomprehensible while still setting it in northern goddamn

Ontario? and actually, okay, you know what, despite having lived immersed in it my entire life I’m not sure i’ve ever seen this exact accent on tv before, it is just weird to see actors using it

My cousins grew up with the guy who wrote this show and is the main actor. It’s scary accurate for hick town Ontario (it’s based on the town of Listowel) and apparently some of the characters are based so closely on real people that they’ve recognized themselves while watching.

amazing dragon age facts you didn’t know

liviuserimond:

  • anders is actually two average height apprentices in a trench coat
  • sebastian originally auditioned for the role of carver, but was too short. the producers loved him so much they wrote a special role just for him
  • merrill is the oldest cast member at 37, and claims her antiaging regimen of smearing her face with halla butter and glitter, putting a towel over her head and inhaling gasoline is what keeps her young and youthful looking
  • aveline and wesley weren’t actually married, it was a sting operation. they were just both too embarrassed to tell the truth so they continued pretending
  • an aborted arc in dragon age 2 was to have hawke discover bethany and carver’s real father was Goku. unfortunately it cost too much to fly him out from his homeplanet, so the arc was scrapped.
  • likewise ‘malcolm hawke’ was supposed to appear in-game instead of leandra, but the man chosen to play him, oded fehr, came down with a case of the t-virus several weeks before filming. the script was quickly rewritten around leandra instead.
  • the original dragon age 2 was supposed to end with a dance off, but isabela and sebastian had been in a car accident two days prior to it and they had to work with stand-ins. sebastian’s ending scene was supposed to include a dramatic proclamation of love between him and varric, but as he was in a full-body cast, his stand-in was written to storm off instead
  • varric tethras and sebastian vael are actually happily married in real life and own a coastal home in the town of sunny Denerim
  • aveline cut her hair before the game began and was required to wear a wig during the whole game. this is why after inquisition, her epilogue slides feature her actual hair
  • fenris was originally supposed to be a dwarf
  • garrett and marian hawke are twins in real life, but bethany and carver are not. bethany is actually 7 years older than carver, but plays his younger sister on-screen
  • the real carver hawke is actually an outspoken pascifist and vegan. several of his comments in Mark of the Assassin reference this
  • Anders was originally supposed to appear as the secondary antagonist in Dragon Age: Inquisition, but was fired for repeatedly pronouncing Corypheus’ name as “Cornelius”
  • sebastian and anders are actually best friends in real life, and anders gave sebastian away at his wedding to varric. the three also co-own a non-profit dedicated to helping casteless dwarf children find and reconcile with their parents
  • carver and garrett got their start in the hit tv show “Supernatural” playing angst-ridden brothers sam and dean winchester, respectively.
  • the cast and crew are all very close friends, and marian hawke was best man at Patrick Weekes’ wedding
  • mike laidlaw has said “if i could marry anyone in the cast, it would be varric. his chesthair is so soothing. there’s something about a man with a pillow for a stomach that really churns my butter.”
  • writer mary kirby, daughter of the hit game star Kirby, brought her father in to play the role of the Arishok. he had to do intense training, but he said it was worth it to work with his daughter closely once more

You had me up until “sunny Denerim.”

Contrary to what was seen in Origins, Denerim is a lush and beautiful oasis. Origins was filmed off-location in dismal Ohio.
