I bet you anything that after the Arishok thing, Hawke at some point realized they could challenge annoying nobles to honor duels in order to get them to back down or shut up, because no one wants to duel the person who took down the fucking Arishok.
I am also like 95% sure this had at some point backfired on Hawke.
“Hawke, no, you can’t challenge the entire establishment to a duel, that doesn’t even make sense.”
“Why not? I just killed a high dragon in the Bone Pit. I’m ready to go, I’ll punch a Chantry, I don’t give a fuck.”
If I say that I love Zevran or Thane, no one will ask how can I like an assassin.
If I say that I love Isabela, no one will question my morality because of her being a pirate.
If I say that I love Iron Bull or Krem, people won’t judge me, even though they are both mercenaries.
If I say I love Hawke, most people will agree, and won’t mind that they have worked as smuggler or mercenary, and done a lot of shady stuff, killed hundreds.
If I say that I love Sten, people won’t think I’m twisted, even though he murdered the people who saved him, and their children, in cold blood.
If I say I love Jack, people are okay with that, even though her criminal record is pretty impressing.
“Murder, assault, kidnapping, drugs, stealing, arson. Done it all. And that was the boring shit. Piracy, theft of military craft, destruction of a space station, and vandalism.”, she tells you.
But if I say I love Anders, who tried to stop the genocide of his people and therefore committed an act of violence, I am asked “How can you like that monster?”
